Fiore goes on injured reserve

Wednesday September 25, 2002

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) Starting guard Dave Fiore was placed on the San Francisco 49ers' injured reserve list Wednesday with a knee injury meaning he will miss the rest of the season.

Fiore tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the 49ers' 20-10 victory over Washington last Sunday. He will have surgery on the knee on Thursday and rehabilitation is expected to take at least 10-12 weeks.

Fiore has started at three line positions during his six seasons with San Francisco. After starting 31 games at right guard over the previous two seasons, he moved to left guard this fall when the 49ers signed Pro Bowl right guard Ron Stone.

He also has started at center.

Rookie Eric Heitmann will take Fiore's place in the starting lineup. The 49ers on Wednesday also signed rookie lineman Craig Osika, who was cut by San Diego earlier this month.
