Sky Jack has third surgery Tuesday September 17, 2002LOS ANGELES (AP) Sky Jack, winner of the Hollywood Gold Cup in July, had a third operation to remove a bone chip in his right knee and will be out of training for six months. Sky Jack had two operations on the same knee to remove chips a year ago. While recovering, the horse had two bouts with colic, which nearly killed him. The 6-year-old gray gelding's latest operation was Sunday at Los Alamitos equine hospital. ``Injuries in those spots are not really good places to have chips, but it's something he's already made it through twice,'' trainer Doug O'Neill said Tuesday. ``Sky Jack is such a warrior that I think we should be in good shape.'' O'Neill said doctors told him it would be six months before Sky Jack could walk again, which means the horse will likely miss next year's Gold Cup. ``I just want to get him back,'' O'Neill said. ( |
