Angels' Salmon hurt in batting practice
Sunday August 10, 2003CLEVELAND (AP) Tim Salmon of the Anaheim Angels fouled a ball off his left shin during batting practice and was taken to a hospital for examination Sunday.
The outfielder was replaced by Shawn Wooten in the lineup at the designated hitter spot as the Angels completed a three-game series against the Cleveland Indians at Jacobs Field.
Salmon was batting .278 with 15 homers and 55 RBIs in 110 games for the Angels, who have been hit hard by injuries.
The team already was without three key offensive players from the club that won the 2002 World Series.
Outfielder Darin Erstad has played only 67 games because of recurring hamstring problems. He went back on the disabled list Saturday for the second time this season.
First baseman-outfielder Brad Fullmer, who batted .306 in 63 games, is out for the season after having right knee surgery June 24 and third baseman Troy Glaus, second on the club with 16 homers, has been out since July 22 with a contusion of his right shoulder.
