Wednesday June 11, 2003LOS ANGELES (AP) UCLA baseball coach Gary Adams is retiring after the 2004 season, his 30th with the Bruins.
``It's been a great 30 years, but it's time for someone else to lead this program,'' Adams said in a statement released by the university on Wednesday. ``We have most of our key players from this season's team returning, and I am looking forward to one great final season.''
During his 29 seasons, beginning in 1975, the 63-year-old Adams has compiled a 950-793-7 record, taking the Bruins to the NCAA Division I playoffs seven times, reaching the College World Series in 1997 and the NCAA Division I Super Regional in 2000.
Thirty-eight of his players have made it to the major leagues, including Eric Karros, Troy Glaus, Dave Roberts and Todd Zeile.
Before coming to UCLA, Adams coached at Cal-Irvine for five years, leading the Anteaters to NCAA Division II titles in 1973 and 1974.
