River Cats 12, Rainiers 5
Tuesday August 05, 2003WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) The Sacramento River Cats scored eight runs in the first two innings, more than enough to defeat the Tacoma Rainiers 12-5 at Raley Field.
Sacramento starter Justin Duchscherer improved to 11-2, allowing seven hits and four runs. In six innings, he struck out eight and walked two.
The River Cats, first in the Pacific Coast League South Division with a league-best 72-45 record, had 15 hits, 10 off Tacoma starter Chris Wright. Wright lasted five innings. By then, the River Cats were up 8-4. They added two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
For Sacramento, Graham Koonce and Mike Edwards had home runs. Esteban German and Chris Prieto led the River Cats with three hits apiece. Tacoma's designated hitter J.R. Phillips also had three hits.
