Linden becomes seventh rookie to debut for Giants this season
Monday August 18, 2003MONTREAL (AP) San Francisco outfielder Todd Linden made his first major league start against Montreal on Monday, becoming the seventh rookie to debut with the Giants this season.
Linden's contract was purchased from Triple-A Fresno after first baseman J.T. Snow was placed on the disabled list for the second time this season Sunday.
Linden started in left field, the third player to play there for the Giants in four games since Barry Bonds was placed on bereavement leave to be with his ailing father.
Linden, who hit .278 with 11 homers and 56 RBIs with Fresno this season, joined rookies Kevin Correia, Jason Ellison, Jesse Foppert, Francisco Santos, Carlos Valderrama and Jerome Williams, who also made their first appearances in the majors this season.
Originally placed on the disabled list from June 21 to July 2 because of a strained left groin, Snow played just 26 of 52 games before he was shelved again after aggravating the injury Tuesday in New York.
Snow is the eighth player currently on the disabled list for San Francisco, including starter Kirk Rueter, second baseman Ray Durham and shortstop Rich Aurilia, and relievers Felix Rodriguez and Robb Nen.
