Thursday February 06, 2003MALIBU, Calif. (AP) Blake Stepp scored 15 of his 27 points on 3-pointer Wednesday night to lead Gonzaga to a 78-63 victory over Pepperdine.
Stepp went 5-of-12 from beyond the arc for the Bulldogs (17-5, 8-0), who were 12-of-26 shooting 3-pointers.
They were in control much of the game, never trailing and leading by as many as 22 points in the second half.
The Waves (11-10, 3-5) came within 53-47 with 15:25 remaining in the game, but Gonzaga stopped the run and put the game away by going on a 14-0 run to grab a commanding 67-47 lead with 10 minutes remaining.
Stepp sparked the run with consecutive 3-pointers.
Kyle Bankhead added 12 points, including four 3-pointers, while Cory Violette scored 11 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Gonzaga won its eighth straight game.
Pepperdine was led by Terrance Johnson's 20 points. Jimmy Miggins added 14 points while Boomer Brazzle scored 12 points for Pepperdine, which was outrebounded 39-29.
Gonzaga opened the game strong, hitting 10 shots from 3-point range in the first half, including seven of their first 10 shots, to take a 51-42 lead into halftime.
Pepperdine went 4-of-15 from 3-point range.
