Idaho 68, Cal Poly-SLO 65

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) Junior forward Tyrone Hayes led a quartet of double-digit scorers with 15 points as the University of Idaho rallied to beat Cal Poly 68-65 on Thursday night.

Rashaad Powell added 12 points while center Jon Tinnon and guard Dwayne Williams each scored 11 as Idaho (9-10, 5-5 Big West Conference) outscored Cal Poly 43-31 in the second half.

The Mustangs (9-10, 5-5) went on a 14-0 run for a 21-13 lead in the first half. Idaho pulled to within two points before Cal Poly settled for a 34-25 lead at the break.

Idaho went on an 18-5 run in the second half and took a 43-40 lead on a jumper by junior forward Jack May with 12:25 remaining in the game. Both teams traded leads for several minutes until Hayes scored on a dunk off an assist from Williams, giving Idaho the lead for good at 61-60 with 2:41 to play. A three-point play by Hayes with 25.1 seconds iced the win for the Vandals.

The Mustangs were led by center Varnie Dennis who had 20 points and eight rebounds. Junior forward Shane Schilling added 18 points and eight boards.

Cal Poly outrebounded Idaho 41-36.
