Sunday December 15, 2002STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) Freshman forward Christian Maraker and senior guard Demetrius Jackson each scored 15 points Saturday night to lead the University of the Pacific to a 75-59 victory over San Francisco at Spanos Center.
Tigers guards Miah Davis (12 points) and Tom Cockle (11) also scored in double figures to improve to help the team snap a three-game losing streak.
Junior transfer James Bayless, playing his first game for San Francisco, led all scorers with 18 points.
Shamell Stallworth scored 16 points for the Dons (1-6) and transfer Alvin Broussard, in his first game for San Francisco had 13 points and seven rebounds.
Pacific (2-4), which had lost its previous three games by a combined 68 points, built a 25-point halftime lead which it stretched into a 48-22 advantage on Jackson's 3-pointer seven minutes into the second half.
San Francisco then used a series of spurts to come within 50-39 midway through the half and 63-54 on Bayless' inside basket with 3:26 to play. But Pacific scored the next eight points before closing out the victory.
Pacific jumped to an early 15-2 lead as San Francisco made just one of its first 12 attempts from the field. The Dons ended that cold shooting by scoring the next six points, but that's as close as they would come the rest of the game.
The Tigers answered with five players scoring in a 14-0 run that gave Pacific a 29-8 advantage. The Tigers then closed the half with an 8-4 spurt to take a commanding 37-12 lead at the intermission.
The Dons dug their early hole by making just 5 of 27 shots (18.5 percent) in the first 20 minutes, including 0-of-9 from 3-point range.
