Sparks 74, Fever 66
Friday June 13, 2003LOS ANGELES (AP) Lisa Leslie had 21 points and 13 rebounds as the Los Angeles Sparks remained the WNBA's only undefeated team with a 74-66 win over the Indiana Fever on Thursday night.
The Sparks' Mwadi Mabika scored 12 points, while teammate DeLisha Milton added 11. The two-time defending WNBA champions (8-0) moved to within one victory of matching the best start in their seven-year history, set in 2001.
Natalie Williams scored 18 points on eight-of-12 shooting for Indiana (2-3), after missing all four of her shots and being held to one point in 29 minutes in Tuesday's 78-51 loss at Seattle. Kelly Schumacher added 14 in 19 minutes off the bench and Tamika Catchings had 11.
Los Angeles' second-year guard Nikki Teasley matched a career high with 11 assists.
The Sparks scored the first seven points of the second half to take a 38-30 lead with 18:14 remaining. After the Fever pulled to within 46-42, the Sparks went on another 7-0 run, taking a 53-42 lead with 10:59 left.
Indiana would pull to within four on three more occasions the last at 63-59.
