Sunday September 28, 2003

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) Roger Robinson scored twice on breakaway runs and took a pass 58 yards for another touchdown as Northern Arizona defeated Cal Poly 24-7 Saturday night.

Robinson, a transfer from Utah State who beat out three competitors for the starting tailback spot, had a career-high 167 yards on 17 carries, including TD runs of 17 and 69 yards.

Paul Ernster added a 36-yard field goal for the Lumberjacks (3-1), who dealt the nation's 14th-ranked Division I-AA team its first loss in four games.

Chris Peterson had 173 yards in a 20-for-30 passing performance and scored Cal Poly's only TD on a 1-yard keeper, tightening the score to 10-7 with 4:27 left in the second quarter.

But the Lumberjacks answered in 59 seconds when Jason Murrietta found Robinson about 10 yards deep on a third-and-13 play from the NAU 44, and he outran the secondary to the end zone for a critical score with 3:28 left in the first half.

Robinson completed a two-play, 83-yard drive in the fourth quarter with his 69-yard scamper.

Geno Randle had 86 yards in 15 carries for the Mustangs, including a 53-yard run.
