SACRAMENTO (AP) Antar Mahasin's 1-yard touchdown run with 14 seconds left lifted UC Davis to a 31-27 win Saturday night over rival Sacramento State in the 50th Causeway Classic.
Mahasin's plunge capped an eight-play, 76-yard drive. It was the third touchdown of the night for Mahasin, who also scored on runs of 3 and 4 yards. He finished with 171 yards on 34 carries.
The winning drive for the Aggies (2-2) produced the third lead change in the final 6:24.
Sacramento State (2-3) took a 27-24 lead with 1:40 remaining after a 12-play, 80-yard drive culminated with Blake Mori's 2-yard touchdown pass to Jason Girley.
Backup quarterback Jon Barragan, subbing in the second half for starter Ryan Flanigan, countered Girley's score by marching the Aggies down the field with a no-huddle offense.
Barragan completed three passes for 35 yards on the drive and Mahasin ran four times for 36 yards.
The Hornets took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on two Tyronne Gross scoring runs of 5 and 10 yards. UC Davis came to life in the second quarter on a 1-yard touchdown by Mahasin, and a 27-yard field goal by Dusty Apocotos to pull within 14-10 at the half.
Flanigan, suffering from a staff infection, gave way to Barragan in the second half. With 12:42 left in the third quarter, Mori took over for Hornets starter Ryan Leadingham, who left the game with a wrist injury.
