Chargers re-sign Carson, Keathley

Tuesday April 15, 2003

SAN DIEGO (AP) Defensive tackle Leonardo Carson and guard Michael Keathley signed one-year contracts Tuesday to remain with the San Diego Chargers.

Carson, who replaced injured starter Jamal Williams late in the season, was a restricted free agent, and Keathley was an exclusive rights free agent.

Carson started six games last year, including the last four after Williams, San Diego's top run-stuffer, dislocated his left ankle on a hit by Denver's Steve Herndon. Carson, who played in all 16 games, finished with 3{ sacks and 31 tackles.

Keathley joined the Chargers in 2001 as a rookie free agent from Texas Christian, where he was a teammate of Pro Bowl running back LaDainian Tomlinson. Keathley started two games at right guard and played in 14 games last season. He played in all 16 games as a rookie.
