Nevada's van Kampen named WAC softball picther of week

RENO, Nev. (AP) Nevada's Judith van Kampen, who allowed only four earned runs over 22 1/3 innings last week, was named Monday the Western Athletic Conference's softball pitcher of the week.

Van Kampen, a junior from Amsterdam, Netherlands, won two games and lost one as the Wolf Pack posted a 3-2 record over the weekend at the Cal Poly SLO Tournament. She struck out 24, including 11 against Southern Utah.

Hawaii's April Crowell, who hit .385 with three home runs and eight RBI at the Chevron Paradise Classic, was named the WAC's player of the week.
