You heads entries in La Brea Stakes
Friday December 27, 2002ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) You, a winner of four Grade I stakes races this year, leads a field of 11 entered in Saturday's $200,000 La Brea Stakes at Santa Anita.
You will be ridden for the first time by Patrick Valenzuela and carry high weight of 123 pounds in the 30th running of the La Brea, a seven-furlong race for 3-year-old fillies.
The La Brea is the opening leg of the three-race La Canada Stakes for fillies foaled in 1999. It continues with the $150,000 El Encino Stakes at 1 1-16 miles on Jan. 19 and concludes with the $200,000 La Canada Stakes at 1 1-8 miles on Feb. 8.
You won the Las Virgenes Stakes and Santa Anita Oaks this year at Santa Anita. She also won the Acorn Stakes at Belmont Park and the Test Stakes at Saratoga. The La Brea will be her first race since she finished second behind even-money favorite Take Charge Lady in the Spinster Stakes at Keeneland on Oct. 6.
The Kentucky-bred daughter of You and I has won four of eight starts and earned $879,805 this year.
Top challengers to You figure to be Adoration, Anthony Lovato, 121 pounds; Bella Bellucci, Mike Smith, 119 pounds; Dancing, Corey Nakatani, 119 pounds; and Habibti, Victor Espinoza, 117 pounds.
