Ashley wins at Bronx Tennis Classic
Wednesday August 13, 2003NEW YORK (AP) Former Stanford star Taryn Ashley defeated Tory Zawacki 6-2, 6-4 in the opening round of the Bronx Tennis Classic on Wednesday.
Ashley, seeded third, is in her third season on the tour. She reached the second round of doubles in the French Open earlier this year and at last year's U.S. Open.
In other matches, top-seeded Akiko Morigami beat Sunitha Rao 6-1 6-3, and unseeded Michaela Postikova topped Ashley Cargill 7-6 (6) 6-4.
