Fire in brush near Hesperia scorches 80 acres
Monday June 16, 2003HESPERIA, Calif. (AP) A fire scorched 80 acres of brush and grass, including about 10 acres inside the San Bernardino National Forest.
The blaze, which erupted Sunday, was contained by midnight and was expected to be out completely by Monday evening, said Capt. Mike Sweeney of the California Department of Forestry.
About 220 firefighters were called in after the fire broke out at 5 p.m. Sunday behind several trailer homes and recreational vehicles in the Mojave River Valley near Highway 173. Helicopters, air tankers and bulldozers aided the effort.
The cause was under investigation.
