Jurors convict gang member of killing three rivals

Wednesday April 16, 2003

LOS ANGELES (AP) Superior Court jurors on Tuesday convicted a gang member of killing three alleged rivals in 1994.

The panel deliberated 1{ days before finding Marcus Dorwin Adams, 32, guilty on all three counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of carjacking, said prosecutor Patrick Sequeira.

Jurors also found true the special circumstance of multiple murders, which makes Adams eligible for the death penalty. The penalty phase of the trial is scheduled to begin on April 28, the deputy district attorney said.

The members of a rival gang were gunned down as they sat in a car on Sept. 7, 1994. The shooter fled in a car that later was found abandoned.

Charges originally were brought against Adams in 1994 but the case was dismissed the following year because of problems with a witness. The case was refiled in 1999.
