Man found guilty of attempted SoCal murder and other crimes
Saturday April 19, 2003POMONA, Calif. (AP) A man who sexually assaulted a woman before setting her house on fire was found guilty Friday of attempted murder.
The jury also convicted Christopher Bruce Overby, 25, of arson, burglary, robbery and sodomy stemming from the July attack in Claremont. He is scheduled for sentencing on May 22.
During the trial, the 52-year-old victim testified that she awoke in bed to find her attacker on top of her with a knife.
She said she never saw his face. After he beat and sexually assaulted her, the woman said he forced her to shower then tied her up with bedsheets and set fire to her bedroom.
The woman managed to escape and fled from her home as it went up in flames.
Overby's DNA was found on the woman and in blood droplets leading from the house.
