Sunday February 09, 2003

VENTURA, Calif. (AP) A 28-year-old Ventura County jail inmate died of a heart attack while playing basketball at a rooftop recreation area, coroner's investigators said Sunday.

An autopsy indicated that Laquentine Holt, of Camarillo, suffered from heart disease which was exacerbated by the exercise, said senior Deputy Medical Examiner James Baroni.

At about 8:50 a.m. Saturday, the inmate was playing basketball on a rooftop recreation area at the detention facility when a jail employee saw him collapse, said sheriff's Deputy Juan Ponce. He was taken to the county hospital where he was pronounced dead about an hour later, Ponce said.
