Anti-war group reschedules march in San Francisco
Friday January 24, 2003SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Organizers of an anti-war protest have agreed to reschedule a February march in San Francisco that initially was planned for the same day as the city's Chinese New Year's parade.
The new date for the peace rally will be Feb. 16, a day after other such rallies around the country. The New Year's parade will remain on Feb. 15.
``The Chinese New Year parade is one of San Francisco's greatest cultural events and draws worldwide attention and hundreds of thousands of visitors,'' Howard Wallace of Bay Area United Against War said Friday.
Police said they had been in touch with the anti-war group to try to avoid two potential mega-events in one day.
Police say a peace rally last weekend drew 150,000 participants.
