MILLBRAE, Calif. (AP) A Millbrae man killed his 3-year-old daughter before hanging himself in his apartment, police said.
The girl's mother called police late Monday when the girl's father failed to bring her home after a court-ordered weekend visitation, Millbrae police spokeswoman Chris Co said Tuesday.
The girl was due back home at noon Monday, Co said.
When the girl was late, the unidentified mother went to the man's house several times Monday afternoon. She became increasingly worried when no one answered the door and she went to the police department shortly after 11 p.m., Co said.
When police arrived at the man's apartment, they found the bodies inside.
The 30-year-old man had hanged himself, while the child's cause of death had not yet been determined, Co said.
The girl was not shot or stabbed and police expected autopsy results by Wednesday, Co said.
No names have been released pending notification of the man's family.
The girl, who was a few days from her fourth birthday, had been having unsupervised weekend visits with her father for several months, Co said. She would not say whether he had a criminal record.
