Sports celebs decorate designer shoes for charity
Thursday August 21, 2003BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) Wimbledon champion Serena Williams, Oakland Raiders receiver Jerry Rice and Atlanta Braves outfielder Gary Sheffield are among athletes who have decorated shoes to be auctioned for charity.
Each athlete chose their own decoration for the stiletto pumps from designer Stuart Weitzman, which will be auctioned on Weitzman's Web site from Oct. 1-31.
All money raised will go to established organizations that fund breast cancer research.
The shoes, which include an autographed photo from the athlete, will be on display in the windows of Weitzman's Beverly Hills, New York and Boston stores during October.
Rice's pump features a football theme.
Other athletes decorating shoes are Cuttino Mobley of the Houston Rockets, Olympic champion ice skater Tara Lipinski, New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, and Patriots players Troy Brown, Tedy Bruschi and Adam Vinatieri.
