SAN FRANCISCO (AP) San Francisco schools chief Arlene Ackerman vows to stay in her job, despite saying a day earlier that clashes with members of the city's school board were driving her to consider quitting.
Board members with whom Ackerman has disagreed said they remain steadfast in their objections to her management of the district, and they characterized her views as autocratic and unyielding.
Surrounded by parent group representatives, children's advocates and business and political leaders at a news conference Thursday, Ackerman said she was not leaving her post.
``I am not going to have anybody run me out of this school district,'' said Ackerman. ``I don't plan to leave here until I'm ready to retire.''
Ackerman is chief executive of the 58,000-student San Francisco Unified School District. The city's first black schools chief, she was hired by the board in 2000.
