Twin infants left at Indio hospital under Safe Haven Law
Thursday April 17, 2003INDIO, Calif. (AP) Infant twins were left at a hospital under California's Safe Haven law.
The boy and girl were left this week at John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, said Darrell Clark, a supervisor with Riverside County Child Protective Services.
The twins were a few days old and in good condition, Clark said. They were subsequently placed in foster care.
The Safe Haven law enacted in 2001 allows parents to anonymously surrender their babies to hospitals within 72 hours of birth without facing criminal prosecution. It also provides for a 14-day cooling off period, during which the mother may change her mind and reclaim her baby.
