Firefighters put out 22-acre Chino Hills blaze that threatened homes
Thursday August 14, 2003CHINO HILLS, Calif. (AP) Firefighters early Thursday put out a hillside brush fire that had threatened about a dozen homes in this San Bernardino County community.
The flames blackened 22 acres but caused no property damage as about 70 firefighters aided by 15 engines responded, said Bonnie Curtis, a supervisor at San Bernardino County Fire Communications. The fire broke out shortly after 10 p.m. and and burned for a little more than three hours, she said.
The cause was under investigation.
As embers and ash rained down on the neighborhood, residents walked outside and stood in the street to watch the firefighters. No evacuations were ordered and no injuries were reported.
