The System Tray is that area at the bottom of the Windows interface. Typically, you will find a number of icons there. These represent programs that are loaded into memory. While this set-up means that they will launch quicker when you want to use them, if you aren't, they're just draining system resources. To close them manually you should right-click over the icon and choose either Close or Exit. But this can get repetitive if there are programs in the System Tray that you barely ever use. There is a more permanent way to ensure that the programs that are loaded during startup are the ones you really need. 1. Click the Start button 2. Click on Run 3. In the field type: msconfig 4. Click OK 5. Select the Startup tab 6. Remove the checkmarks from the programs you no longer want to load at startup 7. Click Apply 8. Click Ok 9. Your computer will have to reboot before the changes will take effect. WARNING - Be sure that you know the function of whatever program you are removing. Important system files should be left alone. Third-party add-on's like media players are the type of program that are safe to remove.
